Remote Learning

If the Academy building is closed for unforeseen circumstances, such as poor weather conditions, pupils are expected to follow live lessons on Teams based on their normal timetable or complete activities assigned in SAM learning.

An update will be sent to all parents in the form of a text message and electronic letter.

Wherever possible and appropriate, we will teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school. However, we may need to make adaptations in some subjects:

  • Independent tasks assigned on the class Teams channel when live delivery is not possible.
  • Reduced taught lesson time to limit the amount of time looking at a screen.
  • Adapted practical lesson content to suit facilities and space that is available at home.

We expect pupils to complete work in a timeframe similar to that of the normal school day. We appreciate that each circumstance is different for pupils when they learn from home and our safeguarding and pastoral teams will always be available to support any adjustments that need to be made.

Registers will be taken in each lesson and submitted work monitored. Class Charts will be used throughout the day and parents will be alerted to any logs made. Our pastoral teams will monitor across the different curriculum areas and attempt to call parents or carers when needed.

We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work closely with parents and carers to support our pupils
